Crash 08/2005
The Story:
Well, here is the proof that thinking that you will not crash is not right. You will eventually, unless you are very very lucky. I will admit though that I was speeding, and I certainly got what I deserved. Take my advice and never EVER ask yourself this question when deciding whether or not to rip it through a corner: "Hey, what could happen?" Here is what will inevitably happen. I had nearly 6 years of flawless driving under my belt, and perhaps that was enough to convince me that punching it would not yield results any different than the other times I did it. 99% of the time I was a perfectly responsible driver, here and there I experienced the urge that everyone does: just rip it through the bend that I have driven 1000 times. Just obey the law and save it for the track. I totalled 6 years of work & paychecks. I am thankful every day that nobody was injured, no other cars were involved, and I was able to learn this valuable lesson without any drastic, life-altering negative consequences. Drive safe, enjoy yourselves responsibly!
The car was totaled in this crash. The damage was mainly on the passenger side, but was apparent throughout the rest of the car. The trunk did not close properly, nor did the driver's side door. The Racing Dynamics strut brace in the front was destroyed, but in turn saved the engine, which was worth a lot more anyway. The car was stripped of anything valuable, and parts sold. I saved ALL of the modifications for the next E30. I purchased another BrilliantRot 1991 BMW 318iS, except it has a black vinyl interior rather than cloth. Various other OE odds & ends were saved for the next car as well. The Corbeau seats went up for sale, but the harnesses went into the "new" E30. The seat/harness combo is the largest reason no injury was sustained by myself or my passenger, outside of a LOT of luck.
